Lighthouse on Cape Disappointment.
In 1848 a lighthouse was recommended to be located at Cape Disappointment in what was then the Oregon Territory. $53,000 was appropriated in 1852. After the lighthouse was designed, a first-order Fresnel lens was ordered. When the lens arrived it was found to be too large for the tower. Rebuilding the tower took an additional two years. The first lighthouse in the Pacific Northwest was finally lit on October 15, 1856. In addition to the light, the station was equipped with a 1,600-pound (730 kg) bell powered by a striking mechanism. The keeper's residence was about a quarter mile away.
Please check out the collections in my gallery. I am a digital artist, photographer, collage/mixed media artist and watercolor artist. I am putting all my work on display at Fine Art America to share with everyone. My photos are of places I have lived and I have visited including Wyoming, South Dakota, Washington, Nevada, Colorado, and North Dakota, etc., etc. I love the art of photography and photo editing work! I love sharing it with all of you ! I am excited about mixed media art that allows me to integrate all of my passions in a cohesive artwork. My digital art pieces include elements from photos I have taken as well as elements from my collection. Please check back often, I am continually adding something new. I take photos...
